A feature film titled ‘Made in Bangladesh’ revolving around a character named Shimu, who portrays a worker in the readymade garment (RMG) sector of the country and directed by internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain, is being screened in theatres across Europe, as per reports.
The film is currently being screened in 62 theatres in France, 7 theatres in Denmark and 1 in Portugal.
The film also depicts the struggles and successes of female RMG workers and explores how the garment industry of Bangladesh has helped to empower women and has provided them socio-economic independence.
The character of Shimu is reportedly based on a real woman who helped the team out with dialogues and other important details.
“Our film’s distributor Pyramide Films is distributing the film in French territories. The film was released in 53 theatres across France in the first week of its release on 4 December,” maintained the filmmaker speaking to the media adding, “After the positive response from the audience, it was extended to 62 theatres throughout France. Made in Bangladesh is also playing in Denmark and Portugal, and we are hoping it will hit theatres in other parts of the world as well.”
