Coats plc., a world leader in industrial thread and consumer textile crafts business, is adding a new product ‘Hemseal’ to its extensive catalogue. The adhesive thread is specifically designed for ensuring extra security to the blind stitched hems of tailored garments. A single thread chain stitch has a tendency to unravel which results in an instant drop down of the hem. The 85 per cent low-melt co-polyamide and 15 per cent polyester Coats Hemseal adheres to fabrics when pressed under heat, helping to hold hems in place even if the stitching fails.
The thread can be used effortlessly on most fabric types and the application explores two options on the basis of the weight of the fabric and the level of adhesion required. The first application method is to channel it within the overlock stitch formation, and the second option involves using the thread in the overlock looper which can be put to use when working with heavier fabrics or when additional seam security is required. “The advantage of Hemseal is that the hem remains in place even if the blind stitch used to sew it unravels. This helps enhance the durability of the garment and will reduce those annoying ‘instant’ hem drops that can happen in clothing like tailored suits and school uniforms,” informs Rajiv Sharma, CEO, Industrial Division, Coats plc.
