Avery Dennison’s Fastner Division has won an infringement case against three companies, Protrim Enterprises, Arteka Inc. and Gokhan Erkovan for unauthorized use of its patented Plastic Staple® ST9000TM Attacher. The company’s popular Plastic Staple ST9000 Attacher allows jeans and bottoms manufacturers to economically and efficiently apply waistband tickets and pocket flashers that consumers can conveniently remove subsequent to purchase. The product is also used to create “whisker” lines during stone washing processes. The judgement prohibits the three defendants from importing, making, offering for sale, or selling any infringing fastner machines. Also, as part of the settlement, these companies have been directed to pay to Avery damages for past infringing sales.
”The judgment is significant for Avery Dennison given our investment in research and development of patented fastener technology. We will continue to vigorously pursue those businesses that attempt to use our patented technology without authorization,” said Jeff Raymond, Director of Product Development and Marketing, Fastener Division Worldwide.
