Rosalia Mera, the co-founder of the Spanish retail giant Zara, and Spain’s richest woman, passed away at the age of 69 while on a vacation at the island of Menorca. Mera co-founded the first Zara store in 1975 in La Coruna with her ex-husband, Armancio Ortega. Mera after leaving the company’s board of directors in 2004 still held a 6.99% share in Inditex’s stock and had an estimated worth of US $ 6.1 billion according to Forbes. She also held the No. 1 spot on the magazine’s list for “wealthiest self-made woman.” The brand works on the concept of fast fashion in style designs, a business module that later turned into a success for store openings across Spain and then internationally.
