
Walmart India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Walmart Stores Inc, has finalized 20 more locations for its retail expansion in the country. The American retailer will start adding new stores in India starting next year.
Walmart has plans to increase its store count in India to 70 by 2022 from its current count of 21 Best Price wholesale stores in nine states in the country. At least 5-7 new Walmart stores are expected to be functional by next year.
With an aim to speed up its operations in India, the retail giant, Walmart Stores Inc., recently inaugurated its first fulfilment centre (FC) in Bhiwandi near Mumbai.
Along with Walmart, its global arch-rival Amazon is also working extensively to increase its presence in India. Amazon has recently opened various fulfilment centres across the country to enrich its infrastructural impression.
The booming e-retail sector in India has compelled global e-commerce players to increase their presence in the country with more retail expansion plans on the cards.
