Apparel, Made-Ups and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) has appointed Virender Uppal as its new chairman. The appointment was finalised at the 18th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Council on 1st Feb, 2019 in New Delhi.
He has taken over from Dr. A. Sakthivel, chairman of Poppy’s Exports group, Tirupur.
Uppal Chairman of Richa Global Exports, Gurgaon is a veteran in apparel sector and has twice been the chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council. He has also provided leadership support to the Garment Exporters Association, New Delhi for over 4 decades and been in the Board of Directors of AMHSSC since its inception. He is also familiar with the Skill Ecosystem of the country.
Known for his resilient dynamism, far-sightedness and all-encompassing vision, Uppal has been instrumental in providing impetus to the garment exports from the country and therefore hailed as a natural leader.
A centre of Excellence AMHSSC was recently inaugurated at Tirupur on 27th December. The council was formulated by the ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and National Skill Development Council to develop skilled repository for the apparel value chain, national occupational standards in the industry.
