TJX, the American clothing retailer, will be paying US $ 13 million penalty!
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced earlier this week that the owner of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls will have to pay the sum for selling previously recalled products.
In a statement released to media, CPSC said “The agreement settles charges that the firm knowingly sold, offered for sale, and distributed approximately 1,200 recalled products from 21 separate voluntary corrective actions during a five-year period from March 2014 through October 2019.”
In 2019, the apparel retailer, reportedly, sold 19 products after they were recalled – which also included kidswear, baby rockers and watches for children.
The CPSC said that since then TJX has acknowledged sale of three more recalled products.
Notably, most of the post-recall sales were products recalled because of the risk of infant suffocation and death.
Meanwhile TJX has agreed to maintain a compliance programme to ensure recalled products are not on shelves in the future.
Founded in 1987, TJX has over 4,557 discount stores located in nine countries. It generated US $ 38.937 billion in 2018.
