The Father’s Day weekend saw several British retailers offering good online discounts much to the delight of shoppers.
And it didn’t come as a surprise considering Father’ Day was the first major event this year in this ‘new normal’ world people are learning to live with the pandemic.
In fact, the percentage of online apparel discount offered by the retailers jumped by 4 percentage points to clock 55 per cent for menswear compared to what it was in 2019.
For womenswear, the increase was by 6 percentage points to touch 52 per cent.
Lovethesales.com, which released the figures, monitors online discounting across over 1,000 retailers. This time all the eyes were on Father’s Day weekend.
The menswear discount was 37 per cent on average, while in the case of womenswear it was 40 per cent during the weekend.
In the menswear section, French Connection topped with 85 per cent of discounts offered on apparels, with the average discount offered being 49 per cent. In 2019, the retailer had offered 71 per cent of apparel discount. The increase in discount is understandable considering the existing uncertainties.
Ted Baker and TM Lewin took the second and third spots – both offering 76 per cent of clothing discounts. Though the average discount offered by the former was 40 percent and by the latter was 58 per cent.
Interestingly, TM Lewin had given an 81 per cent clothing discount last year, which was 5 per cent higher than this year.
Among the womenswear category, Coast, Karen Millen and Miss Selfridge were the top 3 UK retailers to have offered 100 per cent of clothing discount – a huge surge from what it was in 2019. While Coast had offered just 54 per cent apparel discount last year, Karen Millen and Miss Selfridge had offered 70 per cent and 80 per cent, respectively, on the same in 2019.
The average discount offered by the 3 retailers this weekend was 51 per cent, 41 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively.
French Connection, which offered maximum apparel discount in menswear category, took the fourth spot in womenswear section by giving 86 per cent discount.
With retail stores open, sales picking up gradually, and huge online discounts being offered on apparels, response on Father’ Day is being eagerly awaited across the globe.
