The leather industry of Bangladesh, considered the second most promising in terms of export potentials after readymade garment sector, is all set to get a booster following Government’s decision to consider providing financial assistance to the industry.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Monday confirmed the same at the meeting of taskforce committee formed for the development of the leather industries adding that before Eid-ul-Azha, his Government will fix prices of raw hides to ensure the profit of the traders involved in this business, claimed media reports.
At a time when industries are struggling to counter the economic fallout of the COVID-19 outbreak, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder further informed that all steps would be taken to make sure the tannery owners are able to get loans from the Prime Minister’s stimulus packages, to help them tide over the crisis.
In the meeting it was decided that the district administration would be asked to make all necessary preparations in association with other concerned officials, traders involved in the business and the others concerned to ensure proper management of raw hide during Eid-ul-Azha.
Further, information ministry and the Leather Business Promotion Council would undertake publicity and public awareness campaigns through various media and social media platforms in this direction ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
