Arief Mohamad, Vice President and Head of Flipkart Fashion, is reportedly about to depart the company after nine years, according to sources. Nandita Sinha, CEO of Myntra, will assume additional responsibilities and oversee both Flipkart Fashion and Myntra, expanding her role within the Walmart-owned company.
This change comes amid growing competition in the online fashion sector, where Flipkart faces rivals such as Amazon, Meesho, Nykaa, Ajio, and Tata Cliq. Sinha’s new role aims to strengthen Flipkart’s position in the Indian fashion market, where Walmart holds approximately a 50% market share.
Despite the leadership shift, Flipkart Fashion and Myntra will maintain their separate structures. Myntra will continue to cater to premium customers, while Flipkart Fashion will focus on value-oriented buyers. Both Flipkart and Myntra are owned by the American retailer Walmart.
Flipkart confirmed the news, with a spokesperson stating, “The fashion landscape is evolving, and we are dedicated to enhancing our value plans for fashion-forward customers. Nandita Sinha, CEO of Myntra, will take on the added responsibility of leading Flipkart Fashion alongside her current role.” The spokesperson added that Sinha’s leadership has been crucial in Myntra’s growth, and both brands will operate independently under her guidance.
Mohamad joined Flipkart in 2015, initially overseeing kids’ fashion, women’s accessories, beauty, and footwear, and has led various divisions over the years. He was appointed head of Flipkart Fashion in November 2023. Sinha, who has been with Flipkart for over a decade, was promoted to Myntra CEO in January 2022.
This change revisits a previous arrangement from 2019, when Rishi Vasudev, then head of fashion at Myntra-Jabong, also managed both fashion verticals.
