E-commerce marketplace Meesho will let more unbranded vendors to sell their goods on the platform in an effort to capitalise on MSMEs. According to Sourabh Pandey, general manager of fulfilment and experience at Meesho, the goal is to achieve a 50 per cent increase in sales within the next year by finding a balance between branded and unbranded stores. Over the last year, the e-commerce platform in Bengal has witnessed a 30 per cent increase in orders and an 80 per cent increase in app downloads.
Bengal accounts for almost 70 per cent of the non-GST vendors selling goods on the marketplace. Approximately 52 per cent of the platform’s vendors are also manufacturers. According to Pandey, Meesho uses third-party logistics in Bengal and has 600 logistics partners who are small company owners.
In addition to the urban areas of Hooghly, Barrackpore, and Barasat, the e-commerce platform is seeing an increase in sales in Kolkata, Howrah, and Siliguri. According to Pandey, over 54 per cent of online buyers who use the platform come from rural parts of the state, where there is a greater need for unbranded goods than in Tier 1 cities.
