H&M plans to sell second-hand clothes and accessories at its flagship store in London from 5th October, as pressure increases on fast fashion companies to curb their environmental impact by encouraging the reuse and recycling of garments.
H&M has said it is ‘part of the problem’ and that the way fashion is created and consumed needs to change in light of the European Union’s plans to impose new regulations to reduce textile waste within the bloc.
Arket, Cos, Monki, and Weekday are just a few of the H&M group brands that will be included in the ‘Pre-Loved’ womenswear collection at the retailer’s Regent Street location.
It will be the second H&M location to sell used clothing, following the one in Barcelona that debuted earlier this year. Additionally, H&M offers used clothing online in Germany and Sweden.
According to H&M, the second-hand offerings’ autumn-winter 2023 collection will feature metallic skirts and blouses, trench coats, and ‘trendy knits,’ with new things being uploaded daily.
The clothing will be purchased from Flamingos Vintage Kilo, a business that operates second-hand vintage clothing shops in Europe and the United States, H&M said. In November of last year, H&M introduced a clothes rental programme at their Regent Street location.
