As part of its Weekday integration efforts, the Swedish apparel company H&M Group is getting ready to close its own Monki brand outlets.
The H&M Group said that the womenswear brand Monki will be included into the fashion group’s Weekday brand next year. H&M’s endeavours to position the denim expert as the “ultimate youth destination for style and creative expression” are now in their next stage.
This level entails Monki’s incorporation into both the physical stores and the Weekday online store. According to the announcement, a “limited number” of current Monki locations will also be transformed into Weekday multi-brand outlets. The remaining locations will be shut down.
Based on data provided by the H&M Group (as of 31st August 2024), Monki has 56 locations throughout 15 markets. The brand runs online stores in 29 different countries. In contrast, Weekday operates 47 outlets across 14 markets. Additionally, there are 29 regional online stores.
As part of the merger, H&M shuttered its Gothenburg headquarters in April 2023, which resulted in the first round of layoffs at Monki.
