Despite lot of skepticism around the consumer mindset and behaviour during the upcoming holidays, many retailers are putting their best efforts to woo the consumers.
American retail heavyweight Gap too understands this well!
The retailer has announced that it plans to hire part-time workers to pack its online orders and ensure there is no shortage of resources while preparing shipments.
While Gap’s decision follows its expectations of a huge jump in its e-commerce business, the retailer also intends to hire more workers to enhance its curbside pickup services.
Besides, some staff is being planned for its call centres as well. The staff to be hired for its call centres will also be, reportedly, given the option to work from home.
Also, its fulfillment centre workers will get the option of choosing their working hours.
The retailer had seen its online sales jump by 95 per cent in its second quarter, offset by a slump of 48 per cent in its store sales.

Gap did not reveal the exact number of part-time workers to be employed. It is, however, worth noting here that the American retailer had hired more than 50,000 workers in the first half of the year.
More on the hiring of the workers, Sheila Peters, Head, Gap’s People and Culture, says that the hiring of workers was Gap’s continual commitment to provide its loyal customers with safe and seamless shopping experience.
Notably, there will no jobs fairs to hire workers – keeping the social distancing aspect in mind. This time the interested applicants will be screened online, where they can apply in less than 3 minutes.
Founded in 1969, Gap generates revenue of US $ 16.6 billion.
