The French retail market is struggling!
The second lockdown has hit the French retail sales so badly that reaching pre-pandemic levels seems to be a distant dream.
And now all the retailers across the country have called for federal aid to combat the impact of the second lockdown.
The French Council of Commerce, better known as CDCF, has reportedly said that all apparel, shoe and other retailers are facing a revenue fall of more than 20 per cent over 2020 – and all this despite decent Christmas and Black Friday sales in France.
The footfall is consistently low and people are still reluctant to go out, which is generating panic amongst some retailers.
CDCF, which is a group of several business federations, has called the Government to allow small and big retailers open stores on Sunday ahead of the much delayed start to the yearly winter discount sales on 20 January.
The situation of the retailers is grave in France and CDCF says that unless the Government takes some quick decision, many stores could even shut down.
We will keep you posted on any Government decision taken on the same.
