Decathlon, a French sportswear and athletic goods company, sees India as growing more and more significant to its worldwide business and has plans to construct ten new brick-and-mortar stores there annually going forward.
According to sources, Decathlon has a big strategy to expand its shop network in India. The company has several locations in Indian malls and launched a new store in October of last year at Chennai’s Nexus Vijaya Mall. Currently, Decathlon has 122 locations in India, spanning 19 states. It also has an online site specifically for the Indian market where it sells a variety of goods, including men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and surf gear.
Additionally, Decathlon is concentrating on obtaining more of its goods from India. Currently, about 60 per cent of the products that Decathlon offers in the nation are made in the nation, and the company is eager to raise this percentage.
“We want to get to 90 per cent to 95 per cent, if possible,” said Decathlon’s chief retail and countries officer Steve Dykes at a recent event in Paris. “India is already in the top 10 markets and we want it to get into the top five. I feel we are really on the right track at the moment. And let’s hope within the five years it will be in the top five.”
