Mahmud Kamani, co-founder of online fashion retailer Boohoo, has pledged that it is committed to fix all its supply chain failings in Leicester.
He said this while presenting evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee on Wednesday (16 December).
Expressing shock over the allegations of human right violation in its Leicester unit, Mahmud said Boohoo was very much interested in sourcing in Leicester, but wanted its suppliers to help the retailer in improving the working conditions.
“We will make Leicester right and we will make everything correct,” promised Mahmud.
More on the fashion retailer’s commitment to fix its Leicester supply chain setback, Andrew Reaney, Responsible Sourcing Director, Boohoo, said that over the last year, Boohoo had terminated relations with 64 suppliers and factories in Leicester for code of conduct violations.
Here it is imperative to state that back in September this year, Boohoo had accepted all the recommendations of an independent review done by Alison Levitt.
It’s been a challenging 2020 for Boohoo not only owing to the pandemic wrath, but also due to Leicester’s labour right controversy that has dented its image in a big way.
