With effect from April 29th, Under Armour has announced the appointment of Yuron White as SVP, sportswear, run, basketball/curry, and partnerships. White, who comes to Under Armour from New Balance where he was vice president of global lifestyle, basketball, and innovation, brings over 25 years of experience in the sportswear industry.
Before that, he worked for a long time at Nike, most recently as vice president of cross-category concepts and performance sports. In this role, he was in charge of accelerating the growth of Nike’s category businesses, which included Nike SB, Nike tennis, Nike golf, men’s and women’s training, football, and baseball. The executive also served as vice president/general manager of Nike basketball in Shanghai and vice president of footwear for the Jordan brand.
White’s new position at Under Armour will have him directly answer to Chief Product Officer Yassine Saidi. His headquarters will be in the brand’s Portland office, where he will be in charge of designing clothing and shoes to spur profitable expansion and develop innovative goods. According to a press release, he will create and carry out product plans for the basketball, sportswear, run, Curry brand, and partnership sectors.
“We are so excited to welcome Yuron to Under Armour. His experience in sportswear and footwear will be instrumental in our next chapter of growth and delivering elevated design and product. I know that he will help us extend the reach of our offerings and partnerships to drive consumer demand,” said Saidi.
White’s recruitment is the latest in the US sportswear firm’s strengthening of its product leadership team and the first leadership hire with Kevin Plank as CEO.
White’s appointment comes several weeks after the reappointment of Under Armour founder Kevin Plank to the role of president and chief executive officer at the Oregon-based sportswear firm.
