The Indian arm of global e-commerce giant Amazon witnessed a massive increase in demand for kidswear on amazon.in.
The retailer, which started retailing apparels, accessories and shoes for kids four years back, recorded a surge in demand from tier II and III cities in India which helped it note an overall 80 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth in the year 2017 as compared to 2016, as reported.
Tees, shirts and dresses for 8-12 years old kids were the majorly sold items on the e-marketplace during the period under review followed by sneakers, sports shoes and backpacks, Arun Sirdeshmukh, Director, Amazon Fashion was quoted as saying in an interview to Business Line.
Kidswear brands such as Mothercare, Marks & Spencer, Gini Jony, GAP Kids, United Colors of Benetton, US Polo and 612 League are majorly retailed on Amazon.
Character merchandise with famous movie characters like Chhota Bheem, Frozen, Mickey & Friends, Avenger, Superman and Spiderman emerged as the most sought-after products among the 8 to 12 years old kids.
During the year under review, children’s ethnic wear segment also reported a high surge in demand in the Indian kidswear market which is scaling up.
This growth momentum corroborates predictions made by research firm RedSeer Consulting, which earlier projected that customers from tier II and III cities will be the major contributors to the growth of Amazon in 2017.
