
GlowRoad, the Indian social media start-up, has been acquired by Amazon recently for an undisclosed amount as it looks to enter the social commerce space in India, where users sell their wares.
Media reports maintained this adding GlowRoad and Amazon have confirmed the deal while adding as a part of the acquisition, GlowRoad’s team of 170 employees will join Amazon and the entity will continue to be run as an independent unit.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Amazon, reportedly, added Amazon and GlowRoad together will help accelerate entrepreneurship amongst millions of creators, homemakers, students and small sellers from across India while adding, “…Amazon continues to explore new ways to digitise India and delight micro-entrepreneurs, customers and sellers and, bringing GlowRoad onboard is a key step towards the same.”
Started in 2017, GlowRoad, reportedly, focuses on Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets through resellers even if it has also managed to raise a total funding of approximately US $ 31 million and was, reportedly, last valued at around US $ 75 million.
