German sportswear maker adidas announced the launch of #HOMETEAMHERO Challenge.
The initiative is a virtual sporting event for athletes across the world to come together and unite so as to make a difference by dedicating their workouts for good.
Scheduled to run globally from 29 May to 7 June, for every hour of tracked activity during #HOMETEAMHERO challenge, adidas will donate US $ 1 to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization (WHO) and the goal is to reach one million hours.
The brand has brought together its global community of athletes to participate in this event.
The initiative is creating a global digital sports event where everyone is invited to participate and help reach the goal of achieving one million hours regardless of sport, discipline, ability level or current stage of lockdown.
The virtual sporting event is enabled by the collaboration between multiple activity tracking apps. These include Garmin, Zwift, Polar, Suunto, JoyRun, along with adidas’ own suite of performance platforms – adidas Running and adidas Training – which will also showcase an extended selection of Guided Workouts led by athletes like Cricketer Rohit Sharma, Track Sprinter Hima Das and Boxers Nikhat Zareen and Simranjit Kaur.
“It is our endeavour to provide tangible ways for consumers to keep active & engaged during these testing times. Regardless of circumstance, what unites us all is our drive to do good, feel connected to each other as one team and most importantly, to say thank you to the essential workers who were there for us in a time of need. This is our chance to be there for those who kept us moving,” said Manish Sapra, Senior Marketing Director, adidas.
This virtual sporting event is the latest in adidas’ collaboration-oriented response to keep its communities healthy, active and connected even as the world is reeling under a global pandemic.
