500 new jobs are to be created in the English town of Milton Keynes!
In these tough times, when many people have lost their jobs and many others are struggling to save the ones they have, British fashion retailer John Lewis is creating some job opportunities.
The retailer has signed an agreement with Tesco to lease 1 million square feet warehouse in the town of Milton Keynes.
The deal will help the retailer satisfy the fast-growing customer needs and demands for online orders.
Ever since the world was hit by pandemic in early 2020, e-commerce sales have surged from 40 per cent to 60 per cent of John Lewis’ total sales.
The warehouse has been leased for 11 years and will be opened in summer 2022. However, as and when it opens, it is expected to generate as many as 500 jobs.
Talking of job opportunities, Andrew Murphy, Operations Executive Director, John Lewis Partnership said that it will invest in the site’s automation capability to help support growth and, over the next two years, will recruit 500 new partners to work at the warehouse.
The retailer also added that it is committed to invest £100 million into John Lewis’ online growth over the next five years, as part of its wider turnaround strategy.
