The Government-operated Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has announced that it has empowered 400 female entrepreneurs and 300 sellers by integrating them into its e-commerce network.
With assistance from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the 300 sellers were activated on the digital network. They came from six clusters in India: Lucknow, Moradabad, Kanchipuram, Varanasi, Khurja, and Bargarh.
Even though the majority of vendors are new to the digital world, they achieved a noteworthy advancement in their digitalisation process. As an illustration, the ONDC cited the nine Kanchipuram vendors who, in just ten months after being onboarded, generated sales of Rs 21 lakh from 180+ orders overall, compared to their previous monthly average of 10–12 orders.
“If the majority of participating artisans, women entrepreneurs, and social enterprises are getting into the digital e-commerce ecosystem for the first time ever, it simply points out the gaps in the existing infrastructure and its opportunities that are accessible to only a few,” said T. Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC.
Additionally, the Open Network actively sought to empower women entrepreneurs by bringing on board some 400 women-owned companies in India. Together, these companies help nearly 50 lakh women have access to chances for a living.
