After closing its retail store in Los Angeles’ Robertson Boulevard last year, 3.1 Phillip Lim is coming back to the city by the beach. The new concept store, which will open in a lively downtown Arts District of the city, will raise its curtains by the end of April. The 5,000 sq. feet store will be home to his women and men’s ready-to-wear garments as well as the accessories and footwear collections.

The store has been given a gallery-cum-residential studio apartment look and feel, designed collaboratively by New York-based retail designer Kate McCullough and architecture firm MR Architecture + Décor. Phillip Lim, Creative Director and Co-Founder of the brand explained the idea behind the store stating, “This is a concept store where conversations can happen. It’s different from a lifestyle store as the curation is the opposite of ‘everything you need in your life.’ In the times we currently live in, I have never felt fashion to be so ‘unfashionable.’ Instead of perpetuating the impossibility of ‘what’s next, what’s hot,’ we decided to return to the simple pleasures of ‘desire’.”
Wen Zhou, CEO and Co-Founder of 3.1 Phillip Lim also added the importance of a collaborative retail space saying, “The opening of our LA Arts District concept store is an opportunity for us to create a deeper connection and to engage in a meaningful dialogue with our clients about the things they are passionate about today.” This store will not just house their own collections but selected partnerships on non-fashion items designed by like-minded brands including Apparatus, Patrick Parrish Gallery, M. Crow, and Li Inc. These products could range from anything like a light fixture or decor items, designed or curated with the domiciliary vibe of the space in mind.
