The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released the results of the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) for the reference periods April 2022 to March 2023.
The survey reads that with regard to the total number of factories, the textile industry is in 4th place as the sector has a 7.15 per cent share with around 18,113 factories and the total number of people engaged in these units is 17,21,880 (9.31 per cent) of total employment.
With regards to wearing apparel, total people engaged are 13,20,540 (7.14 per cent) of the total people engaged.
The top 10 industries account for 72 per cent of manufacturing Gross Value Added (GVA) while textile contributes 4.1 per cent for the same. GVA can be defined as the additional value which is created when the process of production is carried out. This can be determined by removing the value of inputs in total with the outputs in total.
The survey covers factories registered under Sections 2m(i) and 2m(ii) of the Factories Act,1948.
It can be mentioned here that Annual Survey of Industries is conducted with the primary objective to provide a meaningful insight into the dynamics of change in the composition, growth and structure of various manufacturing industries in terms of output, value added, employment, capital formation and a host of other parameters.
