
Bangladesh Prime Minister on 6th December (Tuesday) inaugurated the operation of the Japanese Economic Zone in Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ), located at Araihazar in the Narayanganj district.
This is as per media reports, which added the Prime Minister opened the same virtually from her official residence.
Reports further added the vision to establish an EZ dedicated to Japan began in 2014, when Sheikh Hasina visited Japan even as subsequently Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) undertook the initiative to conduct a feasibility study in 2016 and later in 2019, Sumitomo Corporation from Japan inked a deal with the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to develop the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone.
Once fully operational, the economic zone would draw investment of over US $ 1.5 billion while also generating employment for over 100,000 people initially.
