The Ministry of Textiles has sanctioned 31 start-up projects under the Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship across Aspiring Innovators in Technical Textiles (GREAT) scheme, approving projects worth Rs 15.40 crore, of which Rs 13.65 crore will be funded by the Government of India, according to Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita.
The selected start-ups are spread across Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Among the States, Maharashtra leads with seven approved projects, followed by Tamil Nadu (six), Delhi (five), Gujarat (four) and Uttar Pradesh (three). Karnataka has secured two projects, while Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand have one approved project each.
Implemented under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), the GREAT scheme provides financial assistance of up to Rs 50 lakh per eligible start-up to support the development and commercialisation of innovative technical textile products and technologies.
The approved projects span a broad range of applications, including smart textiles, functional and performance fabrics, energy-harvesting textiles, wearable healthcare solutions, high-performance composites, eco-friendly and biodegradable materials, as well as medical textile innovations.
