The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has expressed full support for the government’s declaration of state mourning and has called for a one-day general holiday on 31st December at all garment factories affiliated with the association.
In a statement, the BGMEA requested garment factory owners across the country to keep their units closed on 31st December in solidarity with the national mourning announced following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Khaleda Zia passed away at 6:00 am on 30th December. In response, the government declared three days of state mourning, along with a one-day general holiday.
The BGMEA said it fully supported the government’s decision and urged the relevant authorities to formally declare a one-day general holiday for all BGMEA-member garment factories on 31st December.
