Textiles manufacturer Trident Group has announced a Rs. 2,000 crore (US $ 224 million) expansion programme in Punjab aimed at boosting industrial development and creating new employment opportunities across the state.
According to a regulatory filing by Trident Ltd, the company will invest Rs. 1,500 crore (US $ 168 million) in Barnala to increase terry towel production capacity and modernise its paper manufacturing operations. A further Rs. 500 crore (US $ 56.06 million) will be channelled into Mohali to set up a new corporate office and a capacity-building centre.
The company stated that the initiative is designed to strengthen its presence across multiple sectors and is expected to create 2,000 jobs, with a particular emphasis on providing opportunities for semi-skilled rural women and advancing women’s empowerment. It added that the expansion underlines the group’s commitment to supporting industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable development in Punjab.
The announcement was made by Trident Group Chairman and Promoter Rajinder Gupta during a press briefing attended by Punjab’s Industry and Commerce Minister, Sanjeev Arora, the company said.
