At the recently concluded 8th Asian Textile Conference in Mumbai, the Executive Director of Washington DC based International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) Jose Sette averred that Asian countries, particularly India and China should consume more of cotton. He also stated that India should focus on increasing its per capita cotton consumption. According to Jose, the current per capita utilization of cotton in Pakistan is 6 Kg, while it is less than two kilograms in India. If China and India’s consumption matches with that of Pakistan, there will be an added cotton consumption of at least 12 million tons which will prove to be beneficial at the global platform.
