Indian market is likely to witness 10 per cent growth in textiles and apparel exports this year. Rise in wages, political instability and concerns about workplace conditions in other foreign markets are touted to be the primary reasons for the increase in Indian exports to other countries. Indian textile exporters believe that the low labour costs in the country, along with record domestic cotton production this year, will help to gain market share from other exporters. Vijay Agarwal, Chairman of Mumbai-based Creative Group has revealed that orders have gone up by about 20 per cent in his company in the current financial year.
