A non-profit, multistakeholder governance group, Better Cotton, signed a collaboration agreement with Uzbekistan;s stakeholders to introduce Roadmap of Sustainability Developments.
The sustainability roadmap offers sustainable practices focused on benefitting the environment, communities, and the economy in Uzbekistan. The aim of this plan is to make improvement in the country’s cotton sector, raise awareness about sustainability, and promote labour rights and safe working conditions.
The agreement was signed during the Tashkent Textile Week in the presence of the chairperson of Uzbekistan’s Textile and Garment Industry Association, Ilkhom Khaydarov.
The chairperson of Uzbekistan’s senate and chairperson of the National Commission to Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labour, Tanzila Narbayeva is also a part of this agreement.
Rachel Beckett, senior programme manager at Better Cotton commented, “Better Cotton sees its work in Uzbekistan as an opportunity to create value and drive improvements for the environment, producers, and workers in the country’s cotton sector, and to bring us closer to our vision of a world where all cotton is more sustainable.”
