Indya, an ethnic-fusion brand from the house of High Street Essentials Pvt. Ltd., has collaborated with NGO Sshrishti India Trust to economically empower and improve the lives of underprivileged women from the marginalised neighbourhood of Bhatti Mines.
And no better time than now, with International Women’s Day just 3 days away.
Through its women’s empowerment programme, Sshrishti India Trust works towards addressing gender equality by fostering skill-building and capacity-development among women from underprivileged areas.
Delhi’s Bhatti Mines is one such area, where residents are still battling for basics. The trust runs a vocational training centre in tailoring and handcrafting to help women develop skills and secure sustained income generation.
As a part of the collaboration with Indya, women from this village are crafting garment bags using the brand’s leftover and surplus fabrics. These bags will be retailed through Indya website and its exclusive stores across the country, thereby giving these women a steady source of income.
Tanvi Malik and Shivani Poddar, Co-founders, Indya, shared, “In order to uplift women as a community in this country, their participation in the workforce is extremely critical. We are excited to partner with Sshrishti India Trust to support their initiative of fostering self-sufficiency in the women of Bhatti Mines.”
They added “By giving these resilient women trade opportunities, we are providing them with a stable livelihood. We are hopeful that this exercise will help economically uplift this group and take them a step closer to a better future, and a life of dignity.”
Incepted in 2012, High Street Essentials Pvt. Ltd. has today emerged as one of India’s leading omni-channel fashion houses.
