Japan fell drastically both in values and quantities in its industrial sewing machine exports during Jan.-Mar. ’20 period. The statistics were recently released by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Finance, Japan (MOF).
According to data compilation done by Japan Sewing Machinery Manufacturers Association (JASMA), the country exported a total of 25,221 sewing machines in Q1 ’20 with a yearly fall of 26.30 per cent, while the value of export reduced to 6,447.91 million yen, marking 42.7 per cent fall.
The contribution of automatic sewing machines in total export was 5,140 in quantity which is massively reduced by 33.60 per cent from the same period of the prior year. Value of exports of these machines also shrunk by 69.20 per cent to clock 1,131.56 million yen.
On the other hand, the quantity of non-automatic machines in exports remained 20,081 with a yearly fall of 24.20 per cent, while values too decreased by 31.80 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to hit 3,112.90 million yen.
As far as regions of exports are concerned, Japan shipped the most number of industrial sewing machines – 7,197 – to South East Asia and South Asia. The Y-o-Y fall in quantity reported was 34.60 per cent, while values earned were 1,160.28 million yen, marking 62 per cent drop.
The second top exporting destination was East Asia where Japan shipped 6,321 number of industrial sewing machines in Q1 ’20 worth 1,636.61 million yen. The shipment to East Asia saw a dip of 33 per cent in quantity, while values plunged by 47.70 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Markedly, the shipment of industrial sewing machines, in quantity-terms, went up by 17.70 per cent to 4,567 machines which amounted 861.36 million yen, noting a fall of 6.40 per cent. North America witnessed a fall of 54 per cent in quantity terms (1,768) as far as import of industrial sewing machines from Japan is concerned; while values (429.34 million yen) decreased by 54.70 per cent.
