In view of COVID-19, two US-based companies have joined hands to support medical professionals and first responders fighting Coronavirus pandemic. Gerber Technology has collaborated with Hardwire, LLC to produce face shields for these front liners who desperately need protective gear.
Hardwire is adding two new Gerber cutting machines and software to its existing multi-ply cutting systems which will allow it to produce tens of thousands of face shields per day.
According to Mohit Uberoi, CEO, Gerber Technology, the company had launched the production of the machines within 24 hours of its first discussion with the Hardwire team.
“Our dedicated team is organised to spontaneously respond to requests to expand PPE production at existing PPE manufacturers as well as convert apparel and other manufacturers to PPE production with the technology, support and services they need,” averred Mohit.
Seeing the rising COVID-19 pandemic, Gerber has created a PPE Task Force to assist companies increase their production of PPE or their transition into manufacturing PPE by sharing best practices, offering support and providing resources such as pattern data, cut files, markers, and tech packs for masks, technical suits, gowns and caps as well as sign and graphics templates such as labels.
The installed machines in Hardwire are Gerber Paragon multi-ply cutter with CutWorks which will optimise the production of face shields as well as their workflow.
Hardwire will now be able to make multiple face shield PPE prototypes and field versions in the ICUs of two hospitals by optimising the design using comments from doctors and nurses, and scaling it to more than 7,000 units per day in production in under a week after discussion of this partnership.
