Amazon India has reported an approximate growth of 70 per cent during the July to September quarter of 2017. Its arch-rival Flipkart, on the other hand, claims that its business increased by around 85 per cent in terms of Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) during the same period.
The rivalry doesn’t stop here. Amazon India has reported a 66 per cent surge in its Gross Merchandise Sales (GMS) during the April to September period while Flipkart’s gross sales during the same months increased by 43 per cent only. However, this figure excludes Myntra and Jabong, owned by Flipkart.
A Flipkart representative has, however, elucidated that the company’s sales grew by at least 80 per cent during the April-September months and refuted Amazon’s claim to be the Numero Uno in the Indian e-retail market.
Further, Amazon claims that it noted a 59 per cent increase in GMS during the first quarter ended June 2017 and an 88 per cent growth in terms of total units sold. The GMS growth rate during the second quarter stood at 67 per cent.
The Indian subsidiary of the US e-commerce mammoth also states that it grew 1.5 times faster than Flipkart during April-September 2017.
Not only on the retail front, both the e-retailers gave a tough competition to each other in the E-tailing Leadership Index, compiled by RedSeer, to grab the top spot. In the July-September period, both the companies scored 92.
