German sportswear brand Adidas Group has opened its largest distribution centre in Delhi on 19th February. The move is the company’s commitment to the Indian market, with its over 260,000 sqft facility.
The facility, known as ‘1DC’, is the largest centralised facility for sporting goods in India. The facility is the replacement of five previous centres that the company was operating in India. The distribution centre will be managed by the world’s leading contract logistics provider DHL Supply Chain.
Dave Thomas, Managing Director of Adidas Group India, said “Moving to one distribution centre in India is an integral part of our business plans for both Adidas and Reebok. This DC, the largest of any sports retailer in India, is part of our creating the new approach that will enable us to win more consumers, drive business growth and be better equipped to drive efficiency across the entire value chain.”
Furthermore Dave added, “We are confident that this DC will play a key role in helping the Adidas Group India to provide the best-in-class supply chain services to cater to a growing consumer demand across the country.”
In order to provide greater flexibility to the supply chain, the group has consolidated five of its DCs to a single distribution centre near Luthari near Delhi. The centre, which has over 30,000 shelves, covers 22 km, making it the largest sports goods warehouse in the country.
