
Located on the banks of the Andharmanik River in Patuakhali, Payra Port, the third seaport in Bangladesh, besides Chittagong and Mongla, would be operational from next month.
According to reports, Payra Port, which will have world-class services and provide more additional facilities compared to the Chittagong Port, will also be linked with the whole country by waterways and also by rail and roadways at a later stage.

According to Captain Md Saidur Rahman, a member of the Payra Port Authority (Port and Sea), all processes for opening the port have been completed. Captain Rahman further stated that the users of this port will get various types of duty exemption, including import-duty and went on to add that the port would be inaugurated by the Prime Minister or the Finance Minister sometime in February.

The sea port, which according to reports would commence full-fledged deep seaport operations from 2023, would ensure that imported products from the outer anchorage of Payra to Dhaka, Narayanganj, Khulna, Barisal and other places are transported irrespective of the tidal conditions in the sea.
Now with the opening of the port, which is expected to emerge as the lifeline of the proposed Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCIM), it would also be possible to export goods to any country with Bhutan and Nepal expected to have better, easier access and use of the Payra Port.
