The government has asked the owners of two garment factories –Lyric Apparels and Dwell Fashions – to stop production at their facilities due to safety issues as north American retailers’ inspection teams have found structural faults in the 10-storey building which houses Lyric Apparels while the inspection team of ILO found risk in a 12-storey building housing Dwell Fashions. both the teams submitted their findings to a review committee comprising of BUET, BGMEA and BKMEA. The review committee suggested that if Lyric Apparels wants to run its production in the building, they will have to remove the top three floors of the 10-storey building, while Dwell Fashions will also have to remove the top four floors. If the building owners do not agree with the decision, the production of the factories will remain suspended until the Detailed Engineering Assessment (DEA).
