Among key markets, Japan recorded the strongest expansion, with exports surging 30% during the April–December period. Shipments to Saudi Arabia and Italy also rose sharply, by 18.5% and 16% respectively.

The report highlights a transition from a search-driven transaction model to a scroll-led discovery ecosystem. It states that 77% of retail brand and product discovery now occurs on social media, with Meta platforms accounting for 96% of such discovery.

BGMEA representatives reported that February’s production cycle had been reduced to 19 effective working days from 28 due to public holidays linked to the national election and Language Day, disrupting shipment schedules at a critical juncture.

Exporters said that the uncertainty over whether the temporary 15% tariff on Bangladeshi apparel exports to the US will be extended, raised or removed entirely has prompted American buyers to delay placing fresh commitments.

The increase in 2025 underscores growing demand for Bangladeshi garments at a time when US importers are recalibrating supply chains. Industry leaders have indicated that further growth is possible if trade conditions remain supportive.

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir stated that Bangladesh has not yet received any official written notification on the matter, he said, adding that under Section 122, the US Congress must ratify such tariffs within 150 days.
