The German-based fashion e-commerce platform, Zalando, has introduced the beta version of its virtual fashion assistant to the UK market, incorporating OpenAI. This ChatGPT-powered fashion assistant, initially unveiled by Zalando in April, empowers UK customers to explore the extensive range of products using their own language and expressions.
Accessible through the Zalando app and web platforms, this conversational interface allows customers to make inquiries about specific brands or styles they are interested in. For example, they can request items with unique attributes, such as typing a command, “looking for a top with a blend of geometric patterns and floral elements, akin to a mosaic with a touch of romance.” The fashion assistant then presents relevant product suggestions.
Tian Su, Zalando’s Vice President of Personalization and Recommendation, emphasises that offering the beta version of their Fashion Assistant to all logged-in UK customers provides an entirely new conversational experience for everyone while facilitating Zalando’s ongoing learning and enhancement efforts.
He stated, “For customers, this signifies the ability to interact with the Fashion Assistant on their terms, a ground-breaking development for both us and the industry.”
Zalando’s Fashion Assistant now enables customers to directly discover suitable outfits for various occasions, including birthday parties, business meetings, or even remote mountain hiking. Users can seek inspiration from specific styles, celebrities, or cultural trends.
The fashion industry has seen a surge in wardrobe organisation services, further amplified by the integration of AI. With applications like Zelia offering AI-powered outfit coordination, Save Your Wardrobe providing personalized outfit recommendations, and Mona Labs serving as a text-based automated shopping assistant, the future for these companies appears promising.
