In spite of handloom industry being the largest cottage industry in the country with 23.77 lakh looms, and with India exporting US $ 360.02 million for the FY 2015-16, it is still a long way for it to become a mainstream industry. But why is the handloom industry so important…? Does it have the potential to support the supply chain and become a value proposition in the Indian retail market, and also leverage its value in the international market? These are some questions which Team Apparel Online tries to decipher talking to various designers…
The issue also finds reviews of two fairs – Yarnex, Tirupur and the first ever Denimsandjeans India show organized in Bangalore. Whereas the Yarnex fair attracted more than 100 yarn and fabric manufacturers, including many big level companies, like Reliance, Vardhman, Arvind, Trident, Grasim, Bhilosa, Wearit Global etc., several medium-size and emerging companies also displayed their latest offerings. The other fair, the Denimsandjeans, was a win-win affair for all its 30 exhibitors (including top Indian denim mills and few overseas companies) witnessing nearly 1500 industry visitors. The show was very well received and successful on all parameters – organization, quality visitation, full-house seminars and happy participants. Team AO gives a live coverage of both these fairs.
Besides the above, our regular columns of Mind Tree, Fashion Trends, H2F, Industry Wire, Export Statistics, Resource Centre, etc. make the issue worth reading.
