The issue features the evolution of the country’s four-decade old garment industry… ‘Tracing History… A Journey Well Clothed’ is very important since the industry is the pillar of the economy and also responsible for putting the country on the world map. The story begins way back in 1978 when Noorul Quader, the First Secretary to the Bangladesh Government established his first garment export unit by the name Desh Garments. Till today the industry is doing US $ 19 billion exports and projecting it to reach as high as US $ 50 billion in the next 5 years. The story has been beautifully told by the industry stalwarts who had been very much part of its growth process or were instrumental in its growth.
