A new fashion craze has emerged: clothes that resemble jewellery. The glitter and shimmer style was popular last year, but designers seem to have pushed it to the next level this year. The current trend is to put ornate jewellery-like pieces over clothing to get a spectacular fit.
The apparel is either crafted from genuine gems and crystals or includes chains that give it the appearance of elaborate jewellery. Some costumes have jewels embroidered directly onto the fabric, giving them an extremely glam appearance.
PatBo’s Fall 2022 collection contained instances of the style, which featured cutaway bodysuits in shimmery silver tones that resembled bendable chandeliers. Dauphinette, a New York-based company famous for its chainmail pieces, also displayed a deluge of embellished items that resembled clumps of gold leaves that had been spray-painted.
Designer Kelsey Randall, meanwhile, debuted a line of chainmail clothes that featured a dress composed of mirror discs that resembled a disco ball from Studio 54.
