The contentious Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is getting ready to make a triumphant comeback after a five-year absence. The Victoria’s Secret World Tour, a feature film, will replace the angel-filled runway displays that the scandal-plagued brand was historically renowned for this time.
With a focus on ’emerging global trailblazers,’ the documentary-style film aims to ‘unite fashion, film, art, and culture’ in an effort to bring back the once-lauded programme. The ‘reimagined’ movie, according to the brand, will include the ‘VS20,’ a group of 20 creatives who will select four fashion ideas from locations like Bogotá, Lagos, London, and Tokyo. Along with unique Victoria’s Secret designs, their original works will be shown, and the movie will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the whole process.
Since the event was cancelled due to exceedingly offensive remarks made by the company’s former marketing director Ed Rezak, Victoria’s Secret has battled to restore its reputation.
Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons, a docuseries that documented the label’s collapse, was released in 2020, severely damaging the brand’s reputation further.
“This film is the ultimate expression of the Victoria’s Secret brand transformation,” said Raúl Martinez, executive vice president and lead creative director at Victoria’s Secret. “It will be driven by fashion, glamour and entertainment with a nod to beloved iconography from the past but in a bold, redefined way.”
