The special investigation team (SIT) for the textile sector, formed in 2020, has been renamed ‘New Cloth Market wing’ and placed under the economic offences wing (EOW) of city crime branch.
The New Cloth Market wing will now receive complaints from all textile traders in the city. Until now, only traders under this police jurisdiction could access the SIT because it was a part of Sector 2.
Textile dealers have brought up this issue with G S Malik, the commissioner of Ahmedabad city police. On this matter, the commissioner has sent out a notification. It states that the textile SIT would now operate under the EOW and be referred to as the New Cloth Market Wing (NCM wing). Every two weeks, the DCP of EOW will assign a police inspector to oversee the wing’s operations and maintain tabs on violations and applications.
Bharti Pandya, DCP of EOW, said, “The New Cloth Market wing will receive complaints from all five textiles associations and any person directly who is a victim in a textile industry cheating case.” The textile SIT was formed in 2020 to resolve cheating and fraud cases involving textile traders.
