
According to data from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Commerce, the tanning industry in the country has collected over 4.11 million pieces of salted rawhide and skins as of 5th July.
This is as per reports which further added the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has recently disclosed that an estimated 14.1 million animals were slaughtered during Eid-ul-Azha on 29th July.
Insiders in the sector anticipate collecting more than 9.5 million pieces of salted hides nationwide this year.
These insiders mentioned that traders are purchasing various types of rawhide and skins at Government-set rates.
It may be mentioned here the Government has established the prices for salt-applied rawhide of sacrificial animals.
Before Eid, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi had announced the increased rawhide rates after a meeting with the stakeholders concerned, including tanners, associations and traders of the leather sector, at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC).
