The textile and apparel industry of Tamil Nadu has welcomed the state budget for 2022-23 saying that it is a comprehensive and growth-oriented budget.
Allocating Rs.32,660 crore for the industry would attract huge investments in the state and create lakhs of new jobs.
Notably, the allocation of Rs.2,400 crore for the infrastructure development and tackling the Industry 4.0 initiatives for the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state should help the industry get skilled manpower so as to manage the future generation technology.
The new industrial parks will be developed in five districts including those in Vellore, Coimbatore and Perambalur to attract over Rs.50,000 crore investments.
The allocation of Rs. 100 crore to create infrastructure for the export clusters, including Tirupur, is a major requirement to enhance the export growth potential.
The industry is confident that with these positive measures, Tamil Nadu exports will reach the envisaged target of US $ 100 billion by 2030.
Ravi Sam, Chairman, The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) said that the textile industry being the largest industry of the state that accounts one-third of the textile business size of the nation would significantly gain from the various benefits extended under Industrial Policy that encourages scale of operation.
“The ambitious target of 14 per cent growth rate would encourage the textile industry in Tamil Nadu to scale up the production, make investments in green-field projects, etc. The announcement of export infrastructure development in major export hubs including Tirupur would benefit the textile industry to boost its exports,” he said.
After notifying the regular influx of migrant workers from northern states to Tirupur, Raja M. Shanmugham, President, Tirupur Exporters’ Association said that the launching of mobile information and help centres for migrant workers, including Tirupur, will help know their details, address many issues and could also reduce untoward incidents.
He also added that the implementation of a special programme for skill development of youth so as to fulfill the requirement of industries is a welcome measure to enhance productivity and quality including waste reduction and on-time delivery.
