
The Tamil Nadu Government presented its budget for 2023-24 in the state assembly which has good support for the textile industry also.
The Government has enhanced the free power supply to the powerloom sector from 750 units to 1000 units. This announcement would strengthen the competitiveness of the powerloom sector in Tamil Nadu benefitting 1.64 lakh powerloom weavers who account for around 25 per cent of the woven fabrics production in the country and play a major role in exports.
An amount of Rs 25 crore has been allocated for this ‘Factory Skill Schools’ programme. The state-of-the-art Skill Development Centre is to be established, at an estimated cost of Rs.80 crore, in SIPCOT Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district, which is emerging as the third largest industrial cluster in the state.
A new Textile Policy would be released with a focus on holistic development of the entire value chain, latest design, development and textile machinery manufacturing.
An industrial housing facility is to be established in the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Gangaikondan at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore to accommodate 1,500 employees.

K.M. Subramanian welcomed the announcement of setting up of a new Textile Park in Salem on 119 acres at a cost of Rs 880 Crore with the help of finance from both Central and State Governments and contributions from private entrepreneurs.
Appreciating the Government decision to implement Metro Rail project in Coimbatore by considering the future development of Coimbatore, K.M.Subramanian requested to extend this project upto Tirupur as it will largely help for the growth of the area from Coimbatore to Tirupur and mostly, will be beneficial for the daily commuters from Coimbatore to Tirupur.
Ravi Sam appreciated the announcement regarding scaling up skill training infrastructure in a massive way, where factories have been proposed to be used as Skill Development Centres. Industries will be incentivized to provide on-the-job training to youth in factories.
