Secure payment has been a big issue in the Indian domestic textile and garment industry and Asia’s biggest polyester hub Surat has many such incidents to talk about, where industry players have been duped.
The city was recently rocked by a spate of fraudulent transactions, after two individuals were duped of Rs. 21.53 crore worth textile fabrics by a gang of eight people.
Sadly, there are many such instances in Surat.
To overcome such challenges, the textile city’s police have come up with ‘Textile Suraksha Setu’ app to put a tab on fraudsters.
Ajay Kumar Tomar, Police Commissioner, Surat held a meeting with textile traders following which, Textile Suraksha Setu application software is developed.
Personnel from Salabatpura police station in Surat have started contacting the presidents of different textile markets to collect details of all textile traders, who have submitted copies of their rent agreement to them.
As per the Surat police, generally the individual market presidents have data of the shop owners, and so police have started collecting the details and putting it in the app.
The police added that it is difficult for them to reach each and every shop in the market. Some markets have 250 shops, while some others have over 2,000 shops, but they have to share agreement copy with the market president.
Besides putting industry’s data in the software, the app will also contain information regarding when a trader leaves shop or changes the address. Police teams are in regular touch with the members of different markets.
With an annual turnover of Rs. 80,000 crore, Surat has over 65,000 textile trading shops in 170 textile trading markets.
